Each solid wood board consists of a piece of solid wood flooring which is typically between 18mm and 20mm thick. Our range of solid wood flooring has many different finishes, including brushed, oiled, lacquered and hand scraped. We also have a new range of unfinished products and stained oils that can be used to create a unique look of your choice. We have a range of full plank designs, in a wide range of board widths.
Solid wood floors can be expected to last many lifetimes with appropriate care and attention.
Engineered wood
Each engineered wood board consists of three or four layers of real wood, which are fixed together in a cross-ply construction. This means that it is more stable than one solid piece of real wood, and will withstand varying temperatures more effectively than solid wood. Designs in both narrow and wide boards, veneer on the top is 3-6mm thick depending on the range. Our engineered wood flooring comes in a range of lacquered and hand scraped finishes. We have a range of 3-strip and full plank designs in both narrow and wide boards.
Engineered Wood is re-sandable like any solid wooden floor, and has the dimensional stability of a normal engineered floor.
Benefits
Hardwood flooring is composed of a solid piece of hardwood, while engineered hardwood flooring is composed of layers of an inexpensive and easily replenishable wood and then the top layer is hardwood. All of these layers are glued together to make a solid piece of flooring. Due to the layers in engineered hardwood flooring, they are more resistant to moisture. Engineered hardwood flooring is also less expensive than its hardwood counterparts. It is very common for engineered hardwood flooring to have three layers in the core of the flooring and then a top hardwood layer. The more layers, the stronger the flooring is and some flooring manufacturers have started using five to seven layers of wood for the core to make their flooring more durable. This product is now also available in a click system, making it even more cost due to the low cost of installation compared to solid wood.
