Part Time Workers

Status: Casual
Reports To: Franchisee/Manager

Position Summary:To provide administrative, housekeeping and operational support to the manager to ensure the achievement of store finance and operational goals. The General Sales Assistant is responsible for providing a high level of customer service by ensuring customers are met as they enter the store and provided with immediate assistance. The General Sales Assistant shall ensure that the store’s sales floor is neat and tidy and that the merchandising of stock in the store complies with the business’ policies and procedures in this regard.

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Business Growth: Sales targets

  • Assist with serving walk-in customers to achieve maximum sales
  • Assist with responding to telephonic customer calls
  • Achieve individual sales targets
  • Apply effective customer service and retail selling skills
  • Maintain accurate customer records

Sales Promotions

  • Implement sales promotions plans as per store manager instructions
  • Ensure relevant stock for the sales promotion arrives in the store and follows up on any outstanding stock issues with the manager
  • Ensures promotional stock is correctly merchandised before the campaign breaks and that the correct price points and promotional material are utilised to support the campaign.

Customer Service

  • Maintain the image of the store to standard at all times
  • Deal with customers in a professional and responsive manner at all times
  • Deal with telephone customers in a courteous and efficient manner at all times
  • Assist with loading merchandise/stock for customers
  • Resolve customer queries and complaints quickly and efficiently or refer such matters to the manager timeously

Operational Excellence: Store Merchandising

  • Implement ongoing merchandising plans and ensure that store and stock is merchandised accordingly in the timeframes detailed in the merchandising policy & procedure manual
  • Ensure that building and maintaining of displays meets merchandising standards
  • Display point of sale stock/material in accordance with merchandising plan
  • Ensure that best practise display techniques are applied in the store
  • Ensure that all stock is price marked correctly and in accordance with merchandising policies and standards

Effective Cost Management and Administration

  • Utilise resources and assets cost effectively to maximise store profits
  • Perform administrative duties in accordance with company systems, policies and procedures
  • Assist with inventory control and stock counts as required by the store manager
  • Adhere to inventory control procedures
  • Ensure all customer orders and purchases are processed on the POS system
  • Document filing to meet requirements detailed in the Document Retention section of each Policy & Procedure Manual

Effective Risk Management

  • • Capture sales and other documentation accurately, and process in accordance with pre-determined timeframes
  • • Refunds and returns processed in accordance with procedure
  • • Ensure adherence to security procedures
  • • Ensure adherence to inventory control standards
  • • Ensure housekeeping is maintained at the required standard

Health and Safety

  • • Maintain store assets effectively and to required legal and safety standards
  • • Maintain a safe and clean store
  • • Ensure that safety procedures are adhered to
  • • Continuously endeavour to provide a safe work environment for fellow staff and customers in the store
  • • Implement all Health and Safety initiatives as per the manager or safety representative instructions
  • • Report unsafe situations, behaviour or areas to the manager or safety representative

The responsibilities detailed above must also be adhered to in conjunction with the policy and procedures detailed in the Floors Direct operations manual, as well as all applicable rules, procedures and requirements in the contract of employment.

Working Conditions:
Pressure tolerance, responsiveness, enthusiasm, energetic, pro-activity are characteristics required in a Floors Direct general sales assistant. In order to maximise sales and ensure a high level of customer service is provided, the general sales assistant must exhibit strong and current product knowledge and show an attention to detail.
